Boston College has lost seven straight as they dropped to 1-9 in the ACC and to 3-6 in road games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
In the opening frame Sunday afternoon, the Seminoles defense forced two attack errors and added a kill to jump out to an early 3-1 lead. After Boston College evened the score at four following kills from Workman and Topor, plus a forced attack error, Florida State began an 11-2 run that gave them a 15-6 advantage. After Topor added another kill, one of her nine on the day, FSU committed a service error and BC cut the lead to 16-8. Later in the set, BC started a 5-0 run that began with McKenna Goss tallying a kill and ended with a matching kill from Brittany Pavich that had pulled the Maroon and Gold within three at 20-17. However, FSU finished the set on a 5-1 run and took the first set 25-18.
Set Two:
The second set was the closest of the three played Sunday as it featured five tied scores and three lead changes. Following Florida State taking four of the first five points, BC gathered together and fired up four of the next six points to even tie the score at six apiece. After splitting the next four points to create another tie at eight, the Eagles took their first lead of the game when sophomore captain Sol Calvete tallied a service ace to take the 9-8 lead. The Eagles saw their largest lead of the afternoon at 11-8 lead and remained ahead of FSU until the 20-20 mark. However, the Seminoles took the lead back following a BC ball-handling error and finished on a 5-2 run to win the set 25-22 while carrying a 2-0 advantage into the break. In the second set alone, Workman tallied five kills while Topor added four and Pavich three.
Set Three:
In the third and what was the final set of the afternoon, the No. 17 Seminoles took an early 7-2 lead, but in BC fashion, the Eagles showed the ability to get back into the game as kills from McLain and Calvete combined with two forced attack errors and a bad set evened the score at seven. BC would again tie it at 9-9, 10-10 and 11-11, but Florida State finished on an 14-3 run as the home squad completed the sweep of Boston College in front of a crowd of 885 at Tully Gym on the FSU campus.
UP NEXT:
Boston College returns home for the start of four-straight games beginning on Friday, Oct. 30 vs. Clemson, when the Eagles host their annual "Pink Game" to raise awareness for breast cancer. The matchup is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Power Gym.
