Eagles’ goaltender recognized for back-to-back shutouts this weekend
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore goaltender Katie Burt was recognized as the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. In two games last week, the Lynn, Mass., product backstopped the Eagles to a pair of shutout victories as the team opened conference play.
On Saturday in a 4-0 win over Maine, Burt made 17 saves to post the team's first shutout of the season. One day later on Sunday, Burt stopped all 26 shots New Hampshire sent her way en route to her second shutout in as many days.
The two wins moved her season record to 5-0-0, and dropped her goals against average to a Hockey East-best 1.40. The shutouts were the 11th and 12th of her career and she is now one shy of second place on the Eagles' career shutout charts (13, Corinne Boyles '14).
This is the third time in her career that Burt has been tabbed the league's defensive player of the week, and her sixth weekly honor overall. Overall, BC has drawn five weekly honors so far this season, and this is the second-straight defensive player of the week nod. Defenseman Megan Keller picked up the award last week.
No. 2/3 Boston College (6-0-0, 2-0-0 HEA) returns to action this weekend when the team plays its first road contests of the season. The Eagles will face No. 10 Cornell on Friday and Saturday at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, N.Y. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday's game will be at 3 p.m. The games will be Cornell's first of the season.
