Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The North Carolina State Wolfpack out the lumber in the second game of today's softball doubleheader at Boston College, walloping the Eagles 11-2. NC State once again used dominant pitching and multiple homeruns to take down BC, sweeping this afternoon's doubleheader.
NC State got the scoring started in the top of the third on an RBI single by Jen Chamberlin. The next inning, a Megan Dalthorp homer gave the `Pack a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, Heather Gelbard went deep with a leadoff homerun. Down 4-0, BC Head Coach Jen Finley called sophomore Amanda Klimczak from the bullpen to replace freshman starter Taylor Peyton. After one out, Klimzcak surrendered a titanic homerun to Chamberlin. The blast to left field was an historic one. The 47th homerun of her career makes Chamberlin the ACC's all-time leader in career homeruns. Klimzcak let up another homerun before giving way to sophomore Savana Lloyd.
The Eagles got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth, on freshman Amy Tunstall's first homerun of the year. Unfortunately, 7-2 was as close as BC would get today.
With one on and one out in the top of the seventh, NC State's Jen Patterson lifted a Lloyd offering over the center field fence to put the Wolfpack up 9-2. A few batters later, Gelbard slammed her second longball of the game, and third of the day, to provide the 11-2 final score.
The winning pitcher was NC State's Shaina Ervin, who struck out 11.
The two teams will play again tomorrow at 1PM in the series finale. The game will be held at Harvard University, though it will be considered a home game for Boston College.
