Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College softball lost 3-0 in the first game of yesterday's doubleheader at Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech's star pitcher, Angela Tincher, threw seven shutout innings and struck out an amazing 19 Eagle batters while allowing just two hits.
Eagles senior Britney Thompson pitched very well herself. Thompson allowed three runs, but only one was earned, as first inning errors by freshman third baseman Taylor Peyton and sophomore second baseman Renee Ramos led to two Virginia Tech runs.
The Hokies tacked on their third run in the fourth inning when Jessica Everhart hit a solo homerun to center field.
Thompson allowed five hits and three walks along with the three runs as she fell to 6-13 on the season.
The story of the game was clearly the spectacular performance of Tincher. In between a groundout by junior Amanda Booth to lead off the game and a fourth-inning single by senior Jenna Macchi, Tincher struck out an astounding ten consecutive Eagles hitters.
Boston College's only threat came in the seventh inning, when they loaded the bases on an error, fielder's choice and hit batter. Tincher bounced back to strikeout pinch-hitting freshman Kat Vasquez to end the game.
Tincher improved to 31-5, breaking the school-record for victories in a season.
