Boston College was unable to get to Virginia Tech star pitcher Angela Tincher, as they dropped a close game 2-1 in the nightcap of yesterday's doubleheader.
Tincher also pitched the first game, striking out 19 batters in a dominant 3-0 victory. In game two, Tincher opposed Eaglels freshman Taylor Peyton, who threw six very solid innings, allowing just the two runs on five hits with one walk.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when senior Britney Thompson hit her team-leading 11th homerun of the season, a solo shot to right-center.
The Hokies wasted no time answering Thompson's homer, as they used a walk and three singles to plate two in the bottom of the fourth.
Both pitchers spent the rest of the game in their respective grooves, and the game finished 2-1.
With the victory, Virginia Tech clinched first place in the ACC. Tincher struck out 14 Eagles in the night cap, bringing her day's total to 33 over the course of the doubleheader. Her second win of the day improved her mark to 32-5, while hard-luck loser Peyton falls to 2-10.
