Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets crashed the softball Senior Day party, mashing four homeruns en route to a 12-0 victory. The Eagles sent their ace Britney Thompson to the circle for today's start, while Tech countered with Whitney Humphries.
Unfortunately, this was not Thompson's day, as she allowed back-to-back first inning longballs to Jennifer Yee and Whitney Haller before giving way to sophomore Savana Lloyd.
Lloyd allowed a homerun to Savannah Brown in the second before being replaced in the circle by freshman Taylor Peyton. Peyton allowed a homerun to Britney Barnes, as the Yellow Jackets opened up a 9-0 lead after two innings.
Georgia Tech scored three more runs in the third and cruised to the 12-0 win in five innings.
Humphries improved to 19-5 on the year, while Thompson fell to 5-11.
The Eagles honored their four seniors before today's game. The four departing Eagles are: outfielder Amanda Brooks, catcher Ashley Obrest, pitcher/outfielder Britney Thompson, and shortstop Jenna Macchi.
This was the final home weekend series for the Eagles softball team, though they have several mid-week home games left to play. This week the Eagles host UConn (Tues at 3:30pm), Dartmouth (Wed doubleheader at 3pm), and Harvard (Thurs at 4pm). All games will be played at Shea Field.
