
Softball Wins First Game Of Doubleheader With Virginia

Charlottesville, VA. - The Boston College Softball team continued its winning ways today, taking the first game of a doubleheader 8-6 over The University of Virginia. Senior Britney Thompson pitched a complete game for her second victory of the week, helping the Eagles extend their winning streak to three.
Virginia got to Thompson for two runs in the first inning before a scoreless second. The Eagles bats exploded for five runs in the third, taking a 5-2 lead on the strength of Thompson's 3-run homer and a two-run longball from freshman Taylor Peyton.
Virginia answered back in this nip-and-tuck game with two runs in the bottom of the third to pull within a run. After a scoreless fourth, Virginia took the lead back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Down 6-5, the Eagles rallied in the sixth inning. With two outs, sophomore Renee Ramos singled up the middle to score two, giving the Eagles a 7-6 lead. Senior Jenna Macchi followed Ramos' heroics with a run-scoring single of her own, extending the BC lead to 8-6.
The Eagles clung to the two-run lead as UVA loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Showing tremendous poise, Thompson battled back to strike out the final two batters, nailing down the victory in dramatic fashion.
Thompson allowed six runs on nine hits with four strikeouts over seven innings of work, improving her mark to 3-4 on the year. Peyton went 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored and 2 RBIs. Ramos, Macchi, and freshman Amy Tunstall chipped in two hits apiece.
The Eagles will play the Cavaliers again in today's nightcap.
