WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Baseball got back in the win column as they defeated non-conference foe, University of Hartford, 6-5 this afternoon at the Hartford Baseball Field. With the win, BC improves its overall record to 7-11-1 while Hartford falls to 1-14 on the season.
After the Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first, the Hawks quickly got to BC starter Ted Ratliff for a pair of runs on two hits to reclaim the lead 2-1. Hartford would pick up another run in the bottom of third after shortstop Brady Stouffer stole third and scored on a Ben Sobocinski single, making it 3-1.
The Eagles would break the game open in the top of the fifth as they would get to starter Adam Flaherty for five runs on four hits, knocking him out of the game and taking a 6-3 lead in the process.
Hartford would quickly get two runs back in the bottom of the frame, capitalizing on a walk and collecting a pair of singles to pull within one, 6-5. But, that would be all Ratliff would surrender the rest of the game, as he would finish the game allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out seven, earning his first win of the season.
BC is quickly back in action as they take on intrastate rival Holy Cross tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
