Chapel Hill, N.C- - The Boston College Softball team traveled to The University of North Carolina this weekend, opening their ACC schedule with a three-game set against the Tar Heels. Despite a 4-0 lead through three innings, the Eagles dropped game one 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Carly McNary ('08) led off the game for BC with a single to the shortstop. After a sacrifice bunt by Jenna Macchi ('07), hot-hitting Britney Thompson ('07) doubled McNary home for a 1-0 lead. The very next batter, Ashley Obrest ('07), homered to left field, scoring Thompson and staking the Eagles to a 3-0 lead.
Obrest struck again in the third, depositing an Amber Johnson offering over the center field fence.
Thompson, the game's starting pitcher, cruised through the first three innings, before allowing a run in the fourth. Trailing 4-1, in the bottom of the sixth, UNC rallied for eight runs, propelling them to the 9-4 victory.
The story in the sixth was two infield errors that extended the inning for the Tar Heels.
