ATLANTA. Ga. - The Eagles were looking to bounce back with a win after a tough 10-0 loss to the Yellow Jackets Friday afternoon, but dropped a 5-2 decision yesterday at Russ Chandler Stadium. The loss drops BC to 5-8-1 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Georgia Tech improves to 11-9 overall and 3-2 in ACC action.
The Yellow Jackets would get all of the run support they would need in the first inning as they touched Eagles' starter Nate Jeanes for five runs to take an early 5-0 advantage. The Yellow Jackets had just two hits in the inning, but were aided by three walks, a balk and an error by the Eagles.
BC starter Nate Jeanes would settle down, allowing just one more hit after the first inning, and would be relieved after 6.0 innings, giving up only two earned runs on six hits.
BC scored their first run of the series in the second inning when senior Peter Frates singled, then moved to second on a hit by Jett Ruiz. Frates advanced to third on a single by John Spatola and scored on a groundout by Joseph Ayers.
Yellow Jackets' starter John Goodman held the BC offense at bay over the next four innings, facing just three batters over the minimum and allowing just one of the three to advance past first base. Unfortunately, BC could only rally for one more run as Georgia Tech pitching would hold them scoreless until the top of the ninth.
Senior Peter Frates paced the Eagles on offense going 3-4 on the day with one run scored. The Eagles and Yellow Jackets wrap up the three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., and live stats can be found at www.ramblinwreck.com.
