Women's Lacrosse Falls To The Crusaders, 18-11

Worcester, Mass.--The Eagle women's lacrosse team fell to intrastate foe Holy Cross Wednesday afternoon in Worcester, 18-11. Sophomore Emily Hannigan found the back of the net three times, while junior Caitlin Swift came off the bench to put two goals past the goalie. Boston College falls to 2-3 on the season and 0-3 on the road.
Sophomore Maura Mahoney collected seven draw controls as the Eagles beat the Crusaders in that category, 19-12. The Eagles also outshot Holy Cross, 32-27, including 17-13 in the second half, but they could not get the ball behind Crusader netminder Megan Orr. Orr made 14 saves for the win.
Eagle sophomore goalie Katie Monaghan played 41:59 and made 4 saves. Junior Courtney Zwirko came into the game to play the final 18:01, but did not record a save while allowing four goals.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Crusaders then went on a 5-0 run to put an end to the Boston College edge. Besides Hannigan and Swift, junior Rachel Tinquist tallied two goals and four other Eagles notched one goal each. Sophomore Lauren Fitzpatrick finished with one goal and one assist, while Swift added an assist as well to the boxscore.
A six-goal effort by Kristine Corkum led the Crusaders. Meghan Fenton chipped in four, while Amy Archambault added three goals.
Boston College will look for their first ACC win when they play Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Saturday at noon.
