Baseball Falls To Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 24 hours after losing their season opener by one run, baseball dropped another tough one run decision to Lipscomb University this afternoon at the Music City Classic in Nashville. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-2, while Lipscomb improves to 6-4.
The Bisons would get all but one of their runs in the bottom of the second inning, as they scored three runs on six hits, and one error by the Eagles, to take a 3-0 lead. BC would get one run back in the top of the next frame, when Tony Sanchez scored on a ground out from Johnny Ayers.
Heading into the bottom of the fourth, leading 3-1, Lipscomb would get all the offense they would need, as sophomore Andrew Nickerson would single up the middle to give the Bisons a 4-1 lead. The Eagles would again answer quickly though, as they scored twice on two hits, and took advantage of a Lipscomb error, closing to within one, 4-3, heading into the bottom of the fifth.
After the fifth inning, play was halted due to rain. Unfortunately, so was the Eagles' offense, as they could not close the gap on the Bisons once play resumed. Trailing 4-3 in the top of the ninth, senior captain Pete Frates would single up the middle. Frates would then steal second, and freshman Michael Belfiore would get hit by a pitch and BC would have runners on first and second with one out.
But, Lipscomb's closer would not falter, getting the next two batters to ground out and ending the Eagles' threat of a comeback. Freshman Tony Sanchez would go 2-2, with two runs scored in the loss for the Eagles.
BC concludes the Music City Classic tomorrow afternoon when they take on No.1 Vanderbilt University at 12:00 p.m. CT.
