Chestnut Hill, Mass. - In front of a boisterous crowd, the Eagles fought hard but dropped their home opener to the Cavaliers of Virginia 3-1 tonight at Power gym.
Despite falling behind early in game one, the Eagles rallied to tie the score at 13-13. Virginia would pull ahead 16-13 after four consecutive points off of the serve of Emily Perilli. BC would rally again tying the score at 21-21. Junior Kelsey Johnson would serve the Eagles to a lead of 27-24 but Virginia would cut the deficit to 29-28. However, a kill by freshman Dan Van Voorhis would give BC an exciting game one win.
In game two, the Cavaliers would turn things around quickly. Jumping out to leads of 11-5 and 17-12 the Eagles could not close the deficit to less than three points as Virginia would pull away for the 30-24 win.
Game three was not much different as Virginia continued their strong play. After leading 13-10, the Cavaliers would win seven out of the next nine points and close out the game with a 30-21 win
The Eagles would not go quietly in game four. After trailing 18-7, BC rallied to pull within five, 25-20. But, leading 28-24, Virginia was able to hold on for the 30-24 win, foiling any chance of a comeback.
Virginia was led by freshman outside hitter Lauren Dickson who tallied 18 kills and 10 digs. The Eagles were led on offense by junior Kelsey Johnson who had a strong performance with a match high 24 kills while adding nine digs. Senior Allison Anderson also played well registering 29 digs.
BC is back in action on Sunday when they take on the Hokies of Virginia Tech at 1:00 p.m. in Power gym.
