Tallahassee, Fla. - Less than 48 hours after winning their ACC opener, the Eagles were back in action taking on Florida State University this afternoon. However, the Seminoles proved to be too much as they defeated BC three games to one improving to 3-0 in ACC play.
BC fell behind early in game one as FSU took leads of 18-12 and 22-14. The Eagles were able to cut the margin to 27-23 but it would prove too late as the Seminoles would hold on for the 30-24 game one win.
In game two, BC jumped all over Florida State as they quickly led 12-6 early on. An attacking error on the Seminoles gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the game 22-11 and BC was able to close out the game with a Kelsey Johnson kill, one of her 15 for the match, giving them 30-20 game two victory and evening the match at one game apiece.
Games three and four were a different story as Florida State turned the tables on BC shooting out to quick leads in both games. In game three, after trailing as many as six early, BC was able to cut the deficit to three 20-17, but that would be as close as they would get, as the Seminoles would pull away for the 30-21 win.
Florida State was led on offense by junior outside hitter Makini Thompson who had a match high 16 kills. Senior middle blocker Sarah Griffin also played well posting 15 kills and 13 digs.
Sophomore setter Brittany Pierpont collected another 39 assists for the Eagles and senior Dorota Niemczewska had a strong performance with 15 kills and 15 digs.
BC will look to bounce back as they next face the University of Virginia in their home opener Thursday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. in power gym.
