Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Georgia Tech exploded for 10 runs in the fourth to defeat Boston College 12-4 at Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Yellow Jackets sent 14 men to the plate in the fourth, putting 10 runners across, highlighted by a two-run home run from Whit Robbins and a Wes Hodges double that cleared the bases for three more runs and made the score 10-1. The Yellow Jackets added another run in the sixth on a solo shot by Wally Crancer.
In what has become customary for the home team, the Eagles pushed a run across in the first inning for an early lead. Johnny Ayers led off the bottom of the first with a double to left center and Pete Frates followed with a sacrifice bunt, moving Ayers to third. A Jared McGuire groundout gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Tech climbed on the board in the top of the second when Wes Hodges doubled to center to start off the inning. After advancing to second on a groundout, Luke Murton drove Hodges across to tie the score at 1-1.
In the eighth, the Eagles sent two runners across, the first when Eric Campbell reached on an error, driving in Shawn McGill, and the second on a Jeff Schomaker sacrifice fly. McGill singled home McGuire in the ninth to give the 12-4 final.
