Kingston, R.I. - Jared McGuire and Eric Campbell had RBI doubles in a five-run eighth inning, powering Boston College to an 8-4 win over Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I.
Down 4-3 in the eighth, the Eagles went to work off URI starter Tom Perkins as Johnny Ayers and Ryan Hutchinson began the inning with back-to-back singles. McGuire followed with a double, scoring both and giving the Eagles the lead for good. After Shawn McGill singled, sending McGuire to third, the Eagle backstop put himself in scoring position by advancing on a wild pitch. Campbell then added two insurance runs with a two-RBI double of his own. Jeff Schomaker, who got the start in right field and went 2 for 4, added the last run of the day.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the second as Schomaker drove in McGill who singled to start the inning, but the Rams quickly responded in its half of the second.
Three walks from BC starter Nick Napolitano loaded the bases, and Scott Brown took advantage, shooting a double left center and giving the Rams a 3-1 lead.
Napolitano would settle in and allow only one more hit in his six innings of work, adding three strikeouts.
BC tied the score in the fifth as Ayers drove home Schomaker, who reached on a single and Pete Frates who reached on a fielder's choice and stole second.
Brown struck again for Rhode Island in the seventh, breaking the tie by driving a solo home run to right. However, the Eagles responded with its eighth-inning explosion, while Nick Asselin shut the Rams down in the final two frames to pick up the win.
The Eagles will face Harvard in the Beanpot finals tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Fenway Park.
