Winston Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest exploded for six runs in the eighth inning to pull away from Boston College and defeat the Eagles 11-4 in game two of a weekend series in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Demon Decons made some noise in the first three innings off BC starter Dan Houston, plating two runs in the first inning and one run in the second and third, giving Wake an early 4-0 lead.
Shawn McGill gave some support to his freshman pitcher in the fourth when he drilled a solo home run to cut into the deficit. In the following inning, Joseph Ayers started a two-out rally with a walk, and Johnny Ayers followed with a single. Ryan Hutchinson then drove them both in with a two-run double down the left field line to make the score 4-3.
Houston settled down nicely for for three innings until Kevin Boggan relieved him in the seventh. The Demon Deacons would pile on seven more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the second game of the series out of reach.
Johnny Ayers and freshman Eric Campbell had two hits apiece for the Eagles who were out-hit, 15-8.
The final game of the weekend series with Wake Forest is tomorrow at 1 p.m.
