Orono, Maine - The Eagles won their final regular-season game as they defeated the University of Maine Black Bears, 3-2. Sophomore Deborah Spillane scored her team-leading 17th goal of the season while freshman Shannon Webster scored the game-winning goal as the Eagles finished out the season 19-10-4 and 16-4-1 in Hockey East play. The Eagles set a school-record for regular season and conference wins this season.
The Eagles opened up the scoring drive as Spillane netted her 17th goal of the season at 2:38 in the first period. Classmates Cristin Stuart and Sarah Feldman assisted on the even-strength goal. Neither team would score for the rest of the period as both teams were unable to score on the man-advantage with Maine going 0-2 and Boston College 0-1.
In the second period sophomore defenseman Erin Blood notched the Eagle's second goal of the game on the power play, off passes from Stuart for her second assist of the day, and senior Jill McInnis.
BC scored its third straight goal, less than three-minutes later as Webster notched the eventual gamewinner on a power-play goal from Feldman and classmate Maggie Taverna.
Maine would notch its first score at 15:12 in the second as Jenna Cowan converted on the power play to bring the Black Bears within two.
Maine would score once more to bring the score within one as Patricia Gagnon scored her eighth goal of the season on another Black Bear power play at 7:41 in the third period.
Maine pulled its goalie, Genevieve Turgeon for the last 2:40 of the third period but failed to score on the Eagles.
Turgeon ended the afternoon with 16 saves, while senior Alison Quandt had her second game in a row with 23 or more saves, ending the game with 25.
The Eagles, who have clinched the second seed, will find out on Monday who they will face in the first-round of the Hockey East playoffs on Saturday, March 4 at Northeastern University's Matthews Arena.
