Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College senior Kathrin Ress notched her seventh career double-double, 26 points and 12 rebounds, to lead the Eagles past Fairfield 64-58 tonight at Conte Forum. The Eagles are now 5-2, while the Stags fall to 2-4.
Next up for Boston College is Holy Cross on Friday, Dec. 1 in Worcester (7 p.m.).
Along with Ress, freshman Elisabeth Egnell had a season-high 18 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Ayla Brown added eight points and 10 rebounds.
The Eagles began their comeback when Ress hit two consecutive shots to give BC a 39-38 lead at the 13:26 mark. It was the Eagles first lead since 17:49 in the first half when BC led 3-2. The BC lead grew to 47-40 with seven minutes remaining on a baseline jumper by sophomore Corey Rusin.
Ress hit two free throws at 3:23 to give the Eagles a 53-44 lead. The Stags, who shot 47 percent from the field, were 9-of-35 in the second half as the Eagles pulled away.
In the first half, Boston College fell behind quickly as the Stags went up, 15-7, less than six minutes into the action. Two minutes later, Ress picked up her second foul. With Ress out, freshman Elisabeth Egnell kept the Eagles in the game, converting on 5-of-9 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe (14 points) in the first half.
Egnell would hit the final six points in the half, cutting the Fairfield lead to 31-29 at the break.
Game notes: The Eagles did not convert a three-pointer all night (0-for-4). The last time that happened was Dec. 21, 2003 vs. Sacred Heart when the Eagles shot 0-for-3 ... Kathrin Ress notched her fourth double-double of the season ... She is now 47 points away from 1,000 career points ... Kindyll Dorsey did not hit a 3-pointer for the second time this season
