Chestnut Hill, Mass. - In front of a boisterous crowd, the Eagles fought hard but could not gain any momentum as they dropped a 3-0 decision to Clemson University tonight at power gym. The win improves the Tigers to 4-1 in ACC play while the Eagles drop to 3-3.
In game one, the Eagles could not get things going as they quickly trailed by leads of 11-3 and 17-8. BC would close within 26-20 but that would be as close as they would get as Clemson would close out the game winning four consecutive points, three of which came on junior Leslie Mansfield's serve.
Digs and blocking were the difference in game two as the Tigers would tally 22 digs and six blocks respectively. BC would again start slowly falling behind 10-5. Clemson would increase their lead to 20- 10 halfway through the contest. The Eagles could not get closer than eight as the Tigers would gradually pull away for a 30-14 game two win.
In game three, the Eagles kept it close in the early going as Clemson held slight edges of 10-9 and 15-13. But, the Tigers would rally, winning nine out of the next 14 points to take a 19-13 advantage. Holding serve, BC trailed 20-15 but Clemson would prove too much for the Eagles as the Tigers would win 10 of the next 14 points to close out BC 30-19 and complete the three game sweep.
Clemson was lead by sophomore Jeannette Abbott who posted 12 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Didem Ege also played well registering a team-high 15 digs. Senior Allison Anderson led the Eagles with 18 digs.
BC is back in action on Sunday when they take on Georgia Tech University at 1:00 p.m. in Power gym.
