Burlington, Vt. - The Eagles took their third straight game from the Vermont Catamounts on Monday afternoon, and their fourth straight Hockey East game to match their 2004-05 win total of 10. The Eagles remain in first place in Hockey East with a 9-2-1 conference record.
The Eagles netted the first goal of the contest 12:41 in to the first period, when sophomore Colleen Harris scored her second goal of the season. When the Catamounts tried to push the puck out of their end, sophomore forward Sarah Feldman stole it and found Harris in front of the net to make it 1-0. Boston College out shot Vermont throughout the three periods, 26-14.
Boston College would eventually stretch its lead to two in the second period on a goal by freshman defense Maggie Taverna. Taverna scored her fourth of the year off a rebound, with the assist going to classmate Meghan Fardelmann who put the original shot on net. Fardelmann tallied three points in the last two games against the Catamounts.
Senior Alison Quandt recorded the shutout in net for Boston College, stopping all 14 shots she faced. This marked the Eagle's second shutout of the year, and Quandt's first of the season. Vermont goalie sophomore Katie Nichols made 24 saves for the Catamounts.
BC has won four straight games, a season best, had several players honored by Hockey East for the Week of Jan. 16. Goalies, Quandt and Johanna Ellison, Fardelmann and leading scorer Deborah Spillane all were named to the Hockey East Honor Roll.
The Eagles will then return home tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 17 to face Northeastern at 7 p.m.
