Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Leading scorer Deborah Spillane extended her four-game point streak as she scored BC's first goal five minutes into the first period. Spillane continues to lead the Eagles with 23 points as BC remains in first place in the Hockey East standings.
The Eagles scored early in the first period as Spillane took passes from classmates Sarah Feldman and Colleen Harris to put the Eagles ahead. Feldman is now second on the team in points with 18 on the season- nine goals and nine assists. Despite constant pressure from Boston College on the Catamounts' end, sophomore goalie Katie Nichols continued to make save after save into the second period. After the second period, BC had out shot Vermont, 4 to 1, but the score remained 1-0 in the Eagles' favor.
At the end of the third period, the Eagles would break open on a 2-0 scoring run as freshman Meghan Fardelmann recorded both goals. Fardelmann took the puck from freshman Maggie Taverna and senior Jill McInnis to rip it past Nichols at 14:27. This marked McInnis' first assist of the season.
Fardelmann then took the puck back into Vermont territory four minutes later and scored her seventh goal of the season on an empty net.
Despite making only 11 saves on the night, freshman goalie Johanna Ellison held the Catamounts scoreless in three periods and recorded the Eagles' first shut-out of the season.
Nichols finished the afternoon with 29 saves. This was her second game in a row where she recorded 25 or more saves in a game.
After their two wins over the Catamounts, the Eagles have surpassed last year's conference win total of six and hold a record of 8-2-1 in conference play. The Eagles continue to lead the New Hampshire Wildcats in the Hockey East standings.
BC now stands at 9-7-4 overall. The Eagles are one win shy of their season win total of 10 in 2004-05. The Eagles travel to Vermont on Jan. 16 for their third game with the Catamounts at noon. The Eagles will then return home on Tuesday, Jan. 17 to face Northeastern at 7 p.m.
