NEWTON, Mass. - The 16th-ranked Boston College field hockey team dropped its Atlantic Coast Conference opener Saturday afternoon at the Newton Campus field hockey field. The Eagles fell, 3-0, to second-ranked Maryland. Boston College is 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the ACC. The Terps are 8-0 overall (1-0 ACC).
The Eagles held Maryland's second-best scorer without a goal for the game and snapped her four-game scoring streak, but the effort wasn't enough to keep Maryland at bay. The Terps' Susie Rowe struck for the eventual game winner at the 20:14 mark of the first half. Jackie Ciconte and Tiffany Marsh added insurance goals with under 10 minutes to go in the game, giving Maryland the final 3-0 edge.
Boston College goalkeeper Jillian Savoy (Lexington, Mass.) collected eight saves on the afternoon.
The Eagles will travel to Providence for a 7:00 p.m. game Wednesday night.
