CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Boston College softball team dropped a non-conference single game with Boston University Wednesday afternoon at Shea Field. The Eagles lost 4-2. With the loss, the Eagles are 15-19 on the season (3-5 BIG EAST). Boston University is 13-16-1.
Boston College broke into the scoring column first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Carley McNary (Norton, Mass.) led off with a single and scored on a Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.) double. Boston University, however, answered back in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, manufacturing the two runs on one hit.
Boston College tied the game in their half of the inning, as Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) delivered a two-out single that plated Kimmy Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.) who led off the inning with a single. The Eagles then played staunch defense denying a BU offensive attack that left the bases loaded in the fifth inning.
The Terriers broke the tie score with a pair in the seventh inning, scoring on back-to-back singles and a sacrifice fly for the final 4-2 margin. Daly was the hard-luck loser in the circle, falling to 8-8 on the year. She walked two, struck out two, and surrendered four runs on five hits. McNary was 2-for-3 on the afternoon while four other Eagles collected a hit each.
Boston College will return to BIG EAST play this weekend, hosting Rutgers in a doubleheader Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
