Softball Falls To Massachusetts

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Boston College softball team dropped a non-conference single game with Massachusetts Tuesday afternoon at Shea Field. The Eagles lost 5-1, allowing all five runs off the home run. With the loss, the Eagles are 15-18 on the season (3-5 BIG EAST). Massachusetts is 22-12-1 (7-3 Atlantic 10).
Boston College surrendered six hits on the afternoon, three of them home runs. The Minutewomen got on the board first, scoring three runs on a pinch-hit homer by Amanda Acampora in the second inning. They added a pair of runs on solo shots in the third and fifth innings, to take a 5-0 lead.
The Eagles squandered a chance in the fifth, getting their first two hitters on base but squandering the runners. They pushed one run across in the sixth, scoring Ashley Obrest (Elmwood Park, Ill.) on a wild pitch. Obrest led off the inning with a single.
Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) took the loss in the circle, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing four runs. Elena Ferrero (Van Nuys, Calif.) pitched 4.2 innings of relief, giving up two hits and a run.
Boston College will host Boston University Wednedsay in a single game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
