Softball Drops Pair To Syracuse

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Boston College softball team dropped both games of a BIG EAST doubleheader with Syracuse Saturday afternoon at Shea Field. The Eagles lost 8-2 and 4-2. With the losses, the Eagles are 15-17 on the season (3-5 BIG EAST). Syracuse is 22-12 (8-2 BIG EAST).
In the first game, Boston College pushed a single run across in the bottom of the first inning as Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.), who reached with a lead-off walk, scored on a passed ball. From there, it was all Syracuse, as the team scored two runs in the second and three in each of the third and fourth innings.
In the second inning, the Orange knocked in two runs with a home run. They added three runs in the third on back-to-back home runs. The Orange scored three more runs in the fourth on two hits and a BC fielding error. Boston College scored a single run in the fourth inning on a Lisa Field (Encinitas, Calif.) solo homerun to center field. Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) took the loss in the circle, falling to 8-7 on the season.
In the nightcap, the Eagles surrendered 10 hits, including two more homeruns, and found themselves down 2-0 after the first inning. A two-run homer gave the Orange a 2-0 lead after 2 ½ innings, but BC tied the game in the third on a two-RBI single by Kimmy Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.) that plated Macchi and Kristin Allain (Worcester, Mass.) who both singled.
Syracuse added a pair of runs in the fifth on another long ball and a sacrifice fly to left field for the final 4-2 margin. Hopkin went 2-for-3 with both RBI for the Eagles while Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) took the loss on the mound, in her first performance back from a broken hand.
Boston College will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Massachusetts in a single game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
