CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Boston College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against Harvard Tuesday afternoon at Shea Field. The Eagles won the first game, 5-1, before taking the second, 12-2 in five innings. With the sweep, the Eagles are 15-15 on the season (3-3 BIG EAST). Harvard is 10-12 (3-1 Ivy).
In the first game, Boston College broke a 1-1 tie with a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. A two-out rally highlighted by an RBI single from Kristin Allain (Worcester, Mass.) pushed two runs across in the fifth while a home run by Angela Pandolfo (Reading, Mass.) and an RBI single by Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.) accounted for the two runs in the sixth.
The Eagles posted seven hits as four different players drove in runs. Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) posted the win in the circle, pitching the complete game en route to improving to 8-6 on the season.
In the nightcap, the Eagle bats were hot - despite snow flurries for most of the game - and scored 12 runs on seven hits, including four home runs. After Harvard scored in the opening half of the first inning, BC got that run back and added two more insurance runs as Kimmy Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.) hit the first of her two homers. The Eagles exploded for nine runs on five hits (including three homeruns, one of which was a grand slam by Macchi) in the third inning.
Macchi (1-for-4) and Hopkin (2-for-2) each had four RBI for the Eagles while Ashley Obrest (Elmwood Park, Ill.) was a perfect 2-for-2. Elena Ferrero (Van Nuys, Calif.) posted the win on the mound, her first of the year (1-3).
Boston College will return to BIG EAST play Saturday, hosting Syracuse in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m..
