Softball Drops Two On Second Day Of Worth Invitational

Fullerton, Calif. - Boston College dropped a pair of games on the second day of the Worth Invitational at Cal State Fullerton. The Eagles fell to Illinois State, 8-1, and No. 3 Stanford, 8-0 in 5 innings. With the losses, the Eagles are 7-8 on the season.
In the first game, Boston College took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) smacked a two-out single to score Kimmy Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.), who led off the inning with a single of her own. Illinois State took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs on three hits in the fourth inning and then exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game for the win. Thompson suffered the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out four in four innings.
In the nightcap, things didn't get much easier for Boston College as third-ranked Stanford needed only five innings to post its 8-0 win. Stanford's Michelle Smith went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and three RBI and Anna Beardman went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits while striking out one. Hopkin collected BC's lone hit on the afternoon.
Boston College will face Minnesota Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
