Junior forward Stephen Gionta's overtime goal capped Boston College's rally from a 2-0 deficit and lifted the top-seeded Eagles to a 3-2 victory over Massachusetts in the first game of a best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal-round series.
The two teams will play the second game of the series on Saturday, March 12. Game time is 7 p.m. in BC's Kelley Rink.

BC sophomore Brian Boyle evened the score with a power-play goal at 2:52 of the third period. The host Eagles continued to pressure the Minutemen, but UMass goalie Gabe Winer made 16 saves in the period to keep the score deadlocked.
After a scoreless first period, UMass took a 1-0 lead on sophomore Obi Aduba's goal at 2:02 of the second period. Freshman P.J. Fenton doubled the visitor's margin at 4:19.
