Game 1 vs UC-Riverside Box | Game 2 vs UC-Riverside Box
Riverside, Calif. - Boston College won both games in its first doubleheader of the spring season. The Eagles topped UC-Riverside, 2-0 and 4-3, at Amy S. Harrison Field on the Riverside campus Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles are currently 9-10 on the season.
In the first game, Boston College jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Kimmy Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.) home run. The Eagles added another run in the fifth inning when Lisa Field (Encinitas, Calif.) knocked in Riverside product Amanda Booth (Riverside, Calif.). The Eagles successfully defended two Riverside rallies to preserve the shutout win. Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) posted the win on the mound, collecting six strikeouts while walking just one in a seven-inning complete game.
In the nightcap, the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. In the first, Thompson collected an RBI on a single that knocked in Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.), who reached on an error. Ashley Obrest (Elmwood Park, Ill.) followed with an RBI single of her own. Hopkin knocked in another run in the second, giving BC a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, the Highlanders scored three runs of their own to tie the game. UC-Riverside knicked Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) for five hits in the rally, forcing her out of the game. Thompson came on in relief to get the save, as her Eagles pushed the winning run across in the fourth inning on a two-out Field double that scored Hopkin, who started the rally with a single.
Boston College will next play at Loyola Marymount Wedneday afternoon.
