Lake Placid, N.Y. - The women's ice hockey came off a 20 day break as they took on the Golden Knights of Clarkson University in Lake Placid, N.Y. at the 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena. After almost three periods without a goal for either team, the Golden Knights snuck one by the Eagles and took the game, 1-0.
The first period was dominated by defense by both teams. The Eagles only allowed three shots on goal as senior co-captain Alison Quandt saved all three she faced. Clarkson's junior goalie, Kira Hurley made eight saves against the Eagles as they went into the second period scoreless.
The second period was much of the same for both teams as the score remained tied up, 0-0 entering the third period. The defense remained constant as both teams failed to put the puck in the net. Clarkson had 10 shots on goal in the second and the Eagles tallied five more shots on goal. Both goalies entered the third period with 13 saves a piece.
After another hard-fought period the two teams remained in a 0-0 draw with two minutes left in regulation. After a Boston College penalty, the Golden Knights took advantage as Brooke Beazer scored her fourth goal of the season on a power-play goal with 1:54 remaining in the third period. Despite pulling their goalie, the Eagles' attempt at a comeback was foiled as time expired.
Hurley ended the night with 20 saves while Quandt tallied 21 on the night.
The Eagles now stand at 6-5-4 and 5-2-1 in Hockey East play. The Eagles host the Golden Knights on Saturday for the second time in Lake Placid at 2 p.m. and will return home to Kelley Rink in the New Year when they take on the Yale Bulldogs on Jan. 2. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
