Durham, N.H. -- The 14th-ranked Boston College field hockey team extended its win streak to five games with a 3-2 win over New Hampshire Sunday afternoon at the University of New Hampshire. With the win, Boston College improves to 12-4 while the Wildcats drop to 6-12.
The Eagles got on the board first, scoring the game's first goal on a penalty corner attempt as Crystal Frates (Woodstock, Vt.) redirected a Bob Dirks (Malden, Netherlands) shot off a penalty corner. Frates would go on to score all three Eagle goals. The hosts, however, struck back quickly, tying the game just over three minutes later. At the close of the half, UNH went up 2-1.
The second half belonged to the Eagles, as they outshot the Wildcats 12-1. Boston College tied the match at the 44:30 mark when Caitlin Gillen (New Preston, Conn.) found Frates at the left post and Frates beat the UNH goalkeeper for the score.
Almost 12 minutes later, Frates notched the eventual game-winning goal, this time from the right side of the cage as she received a pass from Caitlyn Young (Manahawkin, N.J.) and sent it in for her 12th goal of the season. After that goal at 56:20, the Eagles kept the Wildcats from spending a lot of time in the UNH offensive zone, giving up only one shot that went wide.
The Eagles will face old BIG EAST foe Connecticut Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in Storrs. They will close the regular season with a game at Wake Forest next weekend.
