
Women's Ice Hockey Ties Cross-Town Rival

Boston, Mass. - In their first-ever meeting as varsity teams and Hockey East opponents, cross town rivals Boston College and Boston University ended in a draw, 3-3 in overtime on Tuesday night. BC is now 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Hockey East play.
After the Eagles scored the first three goals, BU came back and with 9:28 left in the third period tying the game up at three. Neither team would score in overtime.
Freshman forward Becky Zavisza scored first for BC at 9:10 in the first period. This was Zavisza's third goal of the season. Hockey East Co-Player of the Week, sophomore Deborah Spillane, assisted on the goal for her sixth point of the season.
The score would remain 1-0 until 9:23 in the second period, when Spillane would tally her second point of the night on a power play goal. Sophomores Sarah Feldman and Cristin Stuart assisted on the play. Spillane went ahead and scored her second power play goal of the night four minutes later to make the score 3-0, but the Terriers would not be shut out.
BU's Laurel Koller scored the Terrier's first goal of the night with four minutes left in the second period. BU would then score again two minutes later to bring the score to, 3-2.
The game would remain at 3-2 until halfway through the third period when Koller scored her second goal of the night on a power play.
BC goalie Alison Quandt ended the night with 20 saves, five of those saves coming in the overtime period. Spillane led all scorers with three points and brings her season total to eight.
The Eagles and Terriers remained tied for the rest of the third period and also had a scoreless overtime. The two teams will meet again on Jan. 21 at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
BC will go on the road next to Buffalo, NY where they will take on Princeton on Oct. 29 and Niagara on Oct. 30. The puck drops at 3 p.m. for both games.
