
Women's Ice Hockey Edges Northeastern 4-3

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College forward Sarah Courtney scored with 1:28 remaining in the third period to lift the Eagles to a 4-3 victory over Northeastern at Conte Forum on Saturday. The win is BC's second in Hockey East this second and brings the Eagles to a 3-1-2 mark in its last six games.
In the opening period, the Eagles out-shot the Huskies 8-3. BC jumped on the board early at 3:07 into the frame. Deborah Spillane passed the puck across the top of the crease and Sarah Feldman blasted a one-timer past Marisa Hourihan to give the Eagles a 1-0 edge. Lindsey Wright also earned her first career assist on the score.
BC (6-11-3, 2-6-2) held Northeastern scoreless on its power-play chance in the first.
The Eagles extended their lead in the middle stanza. With a 5-on-4 advantage, Spillane scored her eighth power-play goal of the year. Spillane took a pass from Cristin Stuart and beat Hourihan for the tally. Kerri Sanders was also credited with an assist.
31 seconds later at 10:26 the Huskies brought the score within one on a goal from Amy Goodney.
Spillane gave BC a two-goal lead at 13:03 when she scored her second goal of the frame off a pass from Rachel Wedig. The goal is Spillane's eleventh of the season. The freshman finished the day with a game-high three points.
BC headed into the second intermission with a 3-1 advantage. Through two periods, the Eagles out-shot the Huskies 18-9.
In the third Northeastern (2-15-1, 1-6-0) narrowed the difference at 7:22 when Ashley Bielawski scored a power-play goal. Less than five minutes later Marie Desrosiers evened the score at three for the Huskies.
The Eagles had three power-play opportunities in the period, but were unable to capitalize. Northeastern out-shot BC 8-7 in the final frame.
At 18:32 Feldman passed the puck to a streaking Sanders on the left. Sanders found Courtney open in center ice who fired a shot past Hourihan's right side. The assist is Sanders eleventh of the year and Feldman's tenth.
Alison Quandt stopped 14 shots for the Eagles and is now 3-1-2 in her last six starts. Hourihan made 21 saves for the Huskies.
BC finished the day 1-for-6 on its power-play chances, while Northeastern went 1-for-3 on its opportunities.
BC will close out its home-and-home series with Northeastern tomorrow at Matthews Arena at 2 p.m.
