Volleyball Drops First Two Games At Sea Sun Invitational

The Boston College volleyball team dropped its first two matches at the Sea Sun Invitational in Orono, Maine today. The Eagles fell to Eastern Illinois (1-0) and Portland State (2-0) to bring them to 1-2 on the season. BC lost its first match to Eastern Illinois by a score of 3-1. The Eagles dropped their first game to the Panthers 30-21, but they rebounded in the second game with the help of Allison Anderson's solid play on both sides of the court. Anderson recorded a double-double with 21 kills and 15 digs. She also registered a career-high three block assists. BC took the game from Eastern Illinois 31-29. BC struggled in the final two games of the match, losing 30-15 and 30-27. Sophomore Dorota Niemczewska had a strong performance for the Eagles by tallying 16 kills and eight digs. Senior Katie Anderson also played well by registering 15 digs at the libero position. In the second match of the day the Eagles faced tough competition from Portland State, losing the first two games to the Vikings, 30-20 and 30-27. The third game proved to be a different story for the Eagle squad as they received assistance from three freshmen, Kristin Whalley, Abigail Hasebroock and Kelsey Johnson. Whalley looked comfortable on the defensive side as she registered 15 digs on the night. Johnson completed 10 kills and made two block assists, while Hasebroock added three kills and one block solo. BC took game three from the Vikings 30-21. The Eagles were unable to tie up the score in the fourth game as they fell 30-27. Niemczewska continued her consistent play by recording her first double-double of the season (10 kills and 10 digs). Allison Anderson registered her third double-double in as many tries with 14 kills and a career-high 23 digs. BC will continue its action at the Sea Sun Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m. against Fairfield University and host, University of Maine, at 2 p.m.
