Volleyball Splits Final Two Matches At Brown Invitational

The Boston College volleyball team split its final two matches at the Brown Invitational today. The Eagles dropped a heartbreaker in the opening match to the University at Albany (9-5) but responded in their second match by blanking Saint Peter's College (1-10) 3-0. BC is now 8-7 on the season.
The Eagles opened up the day against Albany. In the first two games of the match the teams battled back and forth for the lead. Albany took the opening game 30-28, but BC rebounded in game two by winning the game by the same score. Junior Verena Rost continued her solid play at setter as she completed 35 assists and recorded six kills on 10 attempts for an attacking percentage of .500.
The Eagles dropped their third game 30-22 to the Great Danes, but came back in game four. BC committed only three errors and completed 16 kills for an attacking percentage of .325 to take game four from Albany 30-28.
In the decisive fifth game the Eagles completed six kills but they came up short as the Great Danes took the game 15-12. Katie Andersen had another notable performance for the Eagles. The senior recorded 14 kills and 10 digs for her fourth consecutive double-double.
The Eagles rebounded in their second match of the day against Saint Peter's College. Sophomore Kristin Kenney set the tone for the Eagle attack as she registered 41 assists in the match. The Eagles were on fire as they converted 20 kills on 41 attempts for a hitting percentage of .390 and topped the Peacocks 30-21 in the opening game.
BC did not let up in game two as they pounded the Peacocks 30-15. Sophomores Dorota Niemczewska and Alison Shepp had impressive performances for the Eagles. Niemczewska registered 17 kills on 34 attempts for an attacking percentage of .412. Shepp was equally as effective as she recorded 16 kills on 22 attempts for an attacking percentage of .592.
The team continued its strong play in the final game of the match. BC topped Saint Peter's 30-21 to take the match. Allison Anderson kept up her consistent play as she registered a match-high 19 digs.
BC will return to the Power Gym and look to capture its ninth win of the season on Tuesday, September 28 against the University of New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
