Senior captain Kaitlin McGrath (Yarmouthport, Mass.) tallied Boston College's lone score as the Eagles Women's Ice Hockey team fell, 6-1, to Providence College on Senior Night at Kelley Rink. The Eagles dropped to 6-21-3 and 1-17-1 in Hockey East while the Friars, who are receiving three votes in each top-10 poll, improved to 18-13-2 and 13-5-1 in the loop.
Ten different Friars contributed to the PC scoring cause, led by Sonny Watrous, who chipped in a pair of goals. Kelli Halcisak registered her own goal and helped out on two others while Danielle Bourgette had one goal and one assist. Both Darlene Stephenson and Karen Thatcher recorded a tally on the night.
Four of PC's six goals came on the power play, including two of three in the final period. Providence outshot the Eagles, 10-1, as Watrous converted both her scores in that final 20 minutes.
PC grabbed a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the first on Bourgette's rifle of a shot that trickled through Lisa Davis' (Falmouth, Mass.) legs, and Thatcher's redirect of Ashley Payton's pass. With two seconds to go in the period, McGrath, in the right place at the right time, poked through the rebound off of teammate Jill McInnis' (Quincy, Mass.) shot to cut PC's advantage in half.
Halcisak scored a man-up goal in the second period for the 3-1 lead which remained until 7:30 into the final frame.
Davis collected 26 saves in net for BC while her PC counterpart, Jana Bugden, gathered up 17. The two teams meet on Saturday, March 13 in Providence. Game time is 2 p.m.
