Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Maine, 2-0

Lara Smart notched her second shutout of the season, while teammate Tristan Desmet scored two goals to lead the University of Maine women's ice hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Boston College on Friday afternoon at Alfond Arena. The Black Bears improved to 10-14-4 on the season and 7-8-2 in Hockey East play, while Boston College fell to 5-18-3 and 0-14-1 in conference play.
Maine jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kelly Law took a shot from the blueline that Desmet tipped past BC netminder Lisa Davis.
The Black Bears held a 12-8 shot advantage in the second period, but neither team was able to score.
Desmet notched her second of the afternoon when she scored at 9:51 of the third period. The unassisted tally was her second of the game and 10th of the season.
Maine killed off a five-on-three Eagle power play for 52 seconds with just over five minutes remaining in the game to ensure the victory.
Smart made 20 saves in goal for Maine and improves to 8-14-4 on the season. Davis stopped 22 shots for Boston College. Maine held a 24-20 edge in shots in the game.
The two teams meet tomorrow at noon.
