
Women's Ice Hockey Blanks Vermont 3-0

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Sarah Feldman scored a hat trick as the Boston College women's ice hockey team skated to a 3-0 win over the University of Vermont (2-13-1) on Tuesday night at Kelley Rink. Goalie Alison Quandt recorded the team's first shutout of the season with 13 saves.
The Eagles came out shooting with 10 shots on goal in the opening period. At 9:37 Feldman broke past Vermont's defense. As Feldman faked left, the Catamount's goalie followed, and the freshman lifted the puck to the top right corner of the net for her ninth goal of the year. Sarah Carlson and Deborah Spillane earned assists on the tally.
Four minutes later BC (4-10-1) added to its lead. Spillane found Feldman who was able to break away from a scramble in front of Vermont's goal and slip the puck by the goalie. Cristin Stuart was also awarded an assist on the score.
The Catamounts put four shots on net in the first. The team had its best scoring chance with two seconds remaining in the period. Stephanie Tewskbury beat the BC defense to face Quandt in a one-on-one. Quandt came up with the save to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage going into the break.
In the middle frame, both teams had its scoring chances. At 12:30, Vermont caught Quandt out of the goal but could not connect on the centering pass.
BC had a solid opportunity on the power play when the Catamounts were called for a cross-checking penalty. The Eagles remained patient in front of Vermont's net and Stuart put two shots on goal but was unable to beat the goalie.
The Eagles out-shot the Catamounts 10-5 in the second.
BC added to its lead in the final period. On the power play with 6:48 remaining in the game, Feldman notched her third goal of the night. The freshman leads the team with 11 goals on the year. Colleen Harris and Kerri Sanders set up the score. Harris earns her ninth assist and Sanders gains her eighth on the goal.
The Eagles put pressure on the Catamount's zone in the final minutes of the game. BC fired five of its 11 shots in the period in the last five minutes.
BC went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Vermont was 0-for-5 on its chances.
The Eagles out-shot the Catamounts 31-13 on the night.
BC will continue play at home on Sunday, December 12. The Eagles face Princeton at 12 p.m.
