Women's Swimming And Diving Defeats Rhode Island

Tanya Suryoutomo won two individual races to lead the Boston College women's swimming and diving team to a 187-113 victory over the University of Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles took first place finishes in 11 of the 16 events to earn their fifth win of the season.
BC got started early with a win in the 400 medley relay. The team of Suryoutomo, Carolyn Bowman, Elizabeth Byron, and Holly Boucher took home the victory by more than nine seconds with a time of 4:00.70.
The Eagles continued to swim strong in the breaststroke events. Carolyn Bowman won the 100 in a time of 1:08.74, while her teammates finished in the top-three in the 200. Nikoll Julien dominated the race with a time of 2:32.35 and Erin Fransen and Alexandra Wappel rounded out the top-three with times of 2:32.82 and 2:36.83 respectively.
BC also took first place finishes in the butterfly events. In the 100, Torey Thelin controlled the heat with a win in a time of 1:02.29. Katie Barry and Kari Sveum took first and second place in the 200 with times of 2:14.17 and 2:17.46 respectively.
Suryoutomo captured both the 100 and 200 freestyle. The freshman won in times of 54:34 and 1:58.54 respectively. Elizabeth Snyder finished just behind Suryoutomo in the 100 at 54:40.
In the 50 free, the Eagles again took first and second place finishes. Holly Boucher won the heat 25.31, while Megan Hurd hit the wall just after her at 25.63.
The BC divers also had impressive performances on the day. Jennifer Rhines, Bradie Dwyer, and Maeve Brennan took top-three finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter events.
Mari Wunschel finished the meet for the Eagles with a strong swim in the 400 individual medley. The freshman took home first place with a win by more than two seconds at 4:40.18.
BC (5-1) will travel to Princeton to face the Tigers on Saturday, November 13 at 11 a.m.
