The Eagles dropped a heartbreaker this afternoon to the University of Connecticut (4-3-0, 2-1-0) in Hockey East action. The Huskies scored late in the third to edge BC 3-2.
The Eagles got on the board first in the opening period when they were able to capitalize on a UCONN penalty. In the slot Colleen Harris redirected Krystal Strassman's feed from the boards to give BC a 1-0 edge. Harris recorded her second goal of the season on the power-play tally, while Strassman earned her first assist of the season. The Huskies out-shot the Eagles 9-7 in the first period.
Connecticut responded at the start of the second stanza by scoring twice in the opening minute to take a 2-1 edge. In goal, Christine Moynihan made 12 of her 25 saves in the second period.
BC came out firing with 13 shots in the third period. The Eagles tied the score at two goals apiece midway through the third when Cristin Stuart slipped the puck past the Huskies goalie from a tough angle along the boards at 10:28. Sarah Feldman assisted on Stuart's first goal of the season. Stuart and Deborah Spillane both got off three shots in the final period for BC.
With less than eight minutes remaining in the period, Angie Wallace fired a shot past Moynihan to give the Huskies a 3-2 advantage. The Eagles continued to get off shots in the final minutes but were unable to put one in the net.
Both teams had 28 shots on goal for the game. BC went 1-for-2 on the power-play, while UCONN went 0-for-4 on the day.
BC (1-7-0, 0-3-0) will travel to Orono, Maine to face the Black Bears on Saturday, November 13 at 1 p.m. in Hockey East action.
