Junior forward Patrick Eaves scored two goals - both on the power play - to lead fourth-ranked Boston College to a 5-0 non-league victory over Holy Cross before 4,898 fans in Kelley Rink. Eight Eagles notched points on the evening, five of which had multiple point games.
The game marked 16th meeting between the two Jesuit schools, the first since Nov. 10, 1986. Boston College now holds a 15-1 lead in the series.
Senior Dave Spina opened the scoring at 16:33, netting his third goal in the last three games. A shot by Mike Brennan went off of the shoulder of Holy Cross goalie Tony Quesada and Spina batted it down into the net for his fifth point of the season. Ryan Shannon was credited with an assist on the play as well. The assist was Brennan's first career point.
Eaves doubled the margin with a man-advantage tally at 2:00 of the middle period. Ned Havern took a hard slapshot from the right circle, which was saved by Quesada. However, Eaves was waiting at the far post for the rebound and nudged it in for the score.
The junior added a second power-play goal at 9:42. Aligned in similar position, Eaves took a pass from Joe Rooney, which cruised past the crease. Eaves was waiting for the puck and buried a wrister short side.
Senior Taylor Leahy's first goal of the season gave the Eagles a 4-0 cushion. He got a pass from Brian Boyle on the boards and fought to shake the defenseman. Once he was cleared, he netted a hard slapshot stick side on Quesada.
Junior Chris Collins finished the scoring at 4:18 of the third period. The play began with Shannon taking a shot from the left circle. His shot was deflected and Quesada went down. Collins lifted it top-shelf over the prone goalie.
Boston College was 2-for-10 on the power play, while Holy Cross (3-4-3) was 0-for-2. BC was whistled for a season-low two penalties.
Boston College (5-2-2) outshot the visiting Crusaders, 44-15. Senior Matti Kaltiainen made 15 saves to earn his third win of the season and record his seventh collegiate shutout.
BC travels to Northeastern this Saturday to take on the Hockey East member Huskies at 7 p.m.
