Volleyball Falls To Pittsburgh

The Boston College volleyball team fell to Pittsburgh (17-5, 5-0) on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles dropped the road match 3-1 (30-23, 30-28, 20-30, 30-22). Katie Andersen led the Eagles with a match-high 25 kills.
After dropping the first game to the Panthers, the Eagles looked to respond in the second. The team improved its attack by committing only six errors in the game. The team hit the ball for an attacking percentage of .277 but it was not enough to hold off Pittsburgh. The Panthers took game two 30-28.
The Eagles improved their attack in the third game. The team converted 17 kills on 46 attempts to take game three 30-20. Dorota Niemczewska continued her impressive play on offense with 19 kills on the day. The sophomore made only two errors on 42 attempts for an attacking percentage of .405. Niemczewska also played well defensively with five block assists.
Verena Rost returned to action for the Eagles and set the tone for the offense. The junior completed 57 assists and 13 digs in the match.
Although the Eagles had an attacking percentage of .350 in the fourth game, the Panthers were too strong and won the final game 30-22. Alison Shepp had a big game defensively for BC with two block solos and two block assists. The sophomore also added six kills on the day.
The Eagles (17-9, 3-2) will continue their play in the BIG EAST on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they travel to West Virginia.
