Waltham, Mass. - The 11th-ranked Boston College field hockey team celebrated Senior Night with a 3-2 victory over New Hampshire Thursday night at the Bentley College Turf in Waltham, Mass. With the non-conference win, the Eagles improved to 15-4 overall (3-2 BIG EAST). The Wildcats dropped to 3-14.
Boston College got on the scoreboard first when junior Sabrina Lazzari (Weston, Mass.) found the back of the net on a nice shot in front of the cage. She was set up by Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) for the 1-0 lead. BC added an insurance goal when senior Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) connected on a penalty corner shot that was started by Kristen Madden (Concord, N.H.). Lazzari then added what would turn into the game-winner when she netted her 24th goal of the year at the 23:57 mark of the second half. This time, Lazzari was assisted by Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario).
New Hampshire scored two goals in the second half, cutting the BC lead to just one with two minutes remaining. The Eagle defense clamped down and controlled the clock for the final two minutes, taking the 3-2 lead. The Eagles will close out the regular season Sunday at Yale. The BIG EAST Championship will be held Nov. 5-7 at Syracuse University.
