No. 12 Field Hockey Tops Harvard, 3-2, In Overtime

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Sabrina Lazzari (Weston, Mass.) scored at 2:31 of overtime to lift No. 12 Boston College to a 3-2 win over No. 18 Harvard Wednesday night at Jordan Field. The Eagles improve to 13-4 with the win while the Crimson falls to 8-5.
Harvard struck early in the contest with a goal from reigning Ivy League Player of the Week Shelley Maasdorp just 2:19 into the game. Kate Gannon took a shot off the penalty corner and the rebound off of a defender bounced right to Maasdorp at the top of the circle. She buried a shot inside the left post for her team-best 13th goal of the season.
Crystal Frates (Woodstock, Vt.) tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted tally at 18:18. She collected a loose ball after Aliaa Remtilla's initial save on a Lazzari shot, and found the back of the cage to tie the game.
Boston College took the lead at 52:52. A free ball in the Harvard circle found Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) hugging the left post and she tucked the ball past Remtilla for the 2-1 lead.
Jane Sackovich tied the game at 2-2 for the Crimson. She got the ball from Jen McDavitt and fired a shot that traveled right to left across the cage and found the inside of the left post at 55:40.
Neither team could capitalize in the waning moments, including two Harvard penalty corners with seven minutes left, sending the game into overtime.
Maasdorp made a 75-yard run to open the extra session, but BC netminder Jillian Savoy (Lexington, Mass.) came out to the top of the circle to break it up. The Eagles turned around and brought the ball into the Harvard half of the field and Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario) sent the ball into the circle from the right side. Lazzari tipped the ball up and over Remtilla to give BC the win at 72:31.
Remtilla finished with a pair of saves. Savoy made six in the win.
Boston College will wrap up the BIG EAST schedule with a Saturday contest at Rutgers.
