Volleyball Edges Villanova 3-2

The Boston College volleyball team topped Villanova (4-11) today in BIG EAST Conference action. The Eagles beat the Wildcats 3-2 (30-25, 27-30, 30-23, 24-30, 15-10) to land their seventh consecutive win and bring them to 14-7 on the season.
In game one BC took an 11-9 lead off of a kill by Morgan Woodcock. Katie Andersen took over from the back court with her serve and the Eagles won seven straight points. The Eagles would never trail from there. Dorota Niemczewska finished off the game with one of her 13 kills on the day. BC took game one 30-25.
Villanova battled back in game two. Trailing late in the game 20-19, the Eagles would go on a five point unanswered run. Setter Verena Rost charged the Eagle's offense the entire match. The junior registered 63 assists and added 17 digs on the day. BC's run was not enough as the Wildcats won game two 30-27.
The Eagles regained their control in game three. Alison Shepp took over for the Eagles on offense. The sophomore made six of her team-high 18 kills in game three. The team committed only one attacking error on 41 attempts for an impressive attacking percentage of .415. The team played equally as well on defense. Allison Anderson dominated the Eagle defense with a career-high and BC program-high 57 digs. BC beat Villanova 30-23 to go up 2-1.
In game four, BC took an early 6-2 lead off of a Woodcock service ace. Villanova rebounded and tied the game at 14. The Huskies never looked back and won game four 30-24.
The two teams continued to battle it out in the final game. Tied at four, Lia Krautmanis gave the Eagles the lead with one of her 16 kills in the match. BC won four straight points to take the 8-4 lead over Villanova. The Eagles never lost control of the lead. Abigail Hasebroock came in and helped seal the victory for the Eagles. The freshman nailed three kills in game five. Woodcock finished off the Wildcats with a kill from Rost. Woodcock continued to be rock solid defensively for BC. The sophomore had two block solos and three block assists in the match.
BC (14-7) will travel to Providence (4-14) to match up against the Friars in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 12 at 7 p.m.
