Volleyball Snaps First Conference Win

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College (11-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) volleyball beat West Virginia (2-11, (0-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday morning to get there first conference win of the 2003 campaign.
The Eagles dominated the first half of the match, taking the first two games 30-19, 30-20. Morgan Woodcock opened strong for BC, making seven kills in the first game. Katie Andersen came up with two service aces in the second game and the Eagles were well on there way.
West Virginia came on to the court for game three with powerful force. The Moutaineers quickly put points on the board, and the Eagles followed suit, keep the entire match close. Up 28 to 25, the Eagles made several serving errors (7) and attack errors (7) that kept them from shutting out WVU.
The Mountaineers made a complete turnaround in game four, quickly posting points and taking the lead. They kept BC hitting -.095 and the Eagles fell, 30-17.
Quickly regrouping, the Eagles took the court for game five. The first to 15 points, BC made quick attacks to gain the lead. Alison Shepp came up big, making three kills. Dorota Niemczewska had two service aces while Verena Rost had one, boosting BC confidence and the score. The Eagles finally shut down the Mountaineers in game five 15-8.
The Eagles will return to Power Gym on Sunday, September 28 at 2 p.m. to face Pittsburgh.
