CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College (8-3) dropped a heated game to Towson University (5-4) Saturday night in a showdown that lasted five games.
After shutting out Furman and Colgate, the Eagles came out strong Saturday night but were closely chased by Towson. BC took the first game easily, reaching 30 with an eight point lead. Allison Anderson made six kills to open the night.
The Tigers took the second contest by storm. Quickly gaining the lead after the opening serves, Towson took advantage of the three serve errors by BC. The Eagles battled back but it wasn't enough and the match was tied at one game a piece.
BC came back on the court for the third game and overpowered Towson. The Eagles kept the Tigers hitting at .026, while Anderson and Katie Andersen hit for a combined 11 kills.
The fourth game remained close through all 30 points. April Hoffman had 16 attempts and capitalized on six. Towson used both Jennifer Houseman and Mary Clare Coughlan as setters. Both assisted on several key plays to end round 4, 30-28.
In the last 15 point game, it was neck and neck up until game point. The Tigers would grab hold of the lead but the Eagles kept close behind, pushing the final point to 18. Towson grabbed the 17th point and held on to the last serve, winning the match on a Boston College error.
This is the first match that Boston College has played a full five games. The Eagles close The New England Classic 2-1. They will return to Power Gym on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to face Dartmouth.
