Volleyball Rocks Furman University In Home Opener

Volleyball (7-2) had an outstanding match against Furman on Friday night to open Power Gym for the 2003 season. Boston College beat Furman 3-1 in a heated contest.
Katie Andersen had a strong night with 13 kills, and two service aces. Andersen hit .379 and her presence was dominating on the court. Morgan Woodcock also came up big, guarding the net and making some key blocks to prevent the Paladins from scoring, meanwhile tallying a few points herself.
Furman took a quick hold of the match in the opening serves, but BC quickly rallied back to take the lead and steal the win for the first game. The Paladins regrouped and came out on top after the second game, but Boston College came back for a third and fourth contest and took the match by storm.
Verena Rost played a major role in the defeat of Furman. Her 43 assists were more than all other players on both teams combined.
Amber Montague and Julie Frederickson each had eight kills, leading the Furman team. Whintey Purser lead the Paladins with 11 digs on defense.
The Eagles will play Match 2 of the New England Challenge Saturday at 1 p.m. against Colgate.
