BOSTON, Mass. - The Beanpot trophy, coveted by Boston hockey faithful, still eludes the Boston College women's hockey team. In the 25th annual playing of the city's tournament on Tuesday evening at the Bright Hockey Center, the Eagles (11-13-3) were defeated, 7-0, by No. 1 Harvard University (20-1-0).
The Crimson topped BC in the title match for the second consecutive year to win their ninth overall and fifth straight Beanpot championship. Harvard senior Jennifer Botterill led the Crimson with a hat trick and two assists. Her performance earned her the Women's Beanpot Most Valuable Player award, an honor she has received twice before (2000, 2001).
The Eagles received excellent goaltending from sophomore Lisa Davis, who, despite being tested from every angle, recorded 43 saves. Combined with a 30-save performance that led the Eagles to their first-ever conference win over Northeastern in the opening round of the tournament, Davis had an outstanding Beanpot. She was honored with the Bertagna Award, given to the top goaltender in the four-team competition.
Boston College will return to its Hockey East schedule to face the University of Connecticut on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
